Highgate Bridge & Langdale Road Bridge Refurbishment
Feb 2020 - June 2020 | Structural Refurbishment Works
Client
Barnsley Metropolitan Borough Council (BMBC)
Location
Barnsley
Duration
5 Months
The Project
Nationwide Engineering was contracted by BMBC to design and deliver a complete structural refurbishment of the structure.
Highgate Bridge is a 4-span simply supported concrete bridge carries the A635 over the SMJ2 railway lines. BMBC’s Principal Inspection Report highlighted that the existing bearings on each abutment and both piers had failed and there was significant concrete degradation and spalling at several locations on the abutments and piers.
As a Network Rail Framework Contractor, BMBC engaged with Nationwide Engineering prior to AiP design to undertake track access and possession negotiations on its behalf. This was successful, as this accreditation provided assurances to Network Rail, allowing them to relax the possession booking periods and withdrawing their initial demand to BMBC for all works to be undertaken during short 3hour night time possessions
The success in this project reinforces our commitment to early engagement and a close partnership with our clients. Our clients can be certain that we have their objectives at the centre of what we do. We operate exclusively with a small pool of subcontractors so we can be certain of quality, safety and delivery.
