The Project
Following scoping of numerous Lineside Buildings, this was one of many that were detailed as leaking and requiring urgent repair.
The Scope includes erecting GRP Scaffold, installing a new steel frame over the existing roof, then installing ply and roofing products to seal.
Nationwide Engineering had designed a scaffold that was ½ GRP and ½ steel. Debris netting or brick guards will be used on the track side elevation to mitigate any materials or tools falling onto the track below. The half adjacent to the track was GRP to prevent arcing from the third rail. During the works a safety briefing was issued by NR regarding a similar site (being carried out by another Contractor) where they had used a steel scaffold an the 3rd rail had arced. Following this briefing it was mandated by NR that all lineside building scaffolds had to GRP. We were proud of our proactive design and have been in discussions with NR about the potential of ½ and ½ scaffolds to keep cost down as GRP scaffold are more expensive than conventional.
This was a successful scheme that was delivered to a high standard including an innovative scaffold design that Network Rail are considering adopting for future works.
