The Project
Nationwide Engineering were proud to be involved in the construction of a new access ramp at Dorchester West Station which would enable a new DDA compliant access route.
This enhances the accessibility for the disabled, those with buggies and people of restricted mobility between the station and the hospital from Williams Avenue in Dorchester which has no previous facilities.
Works were to involve the construction of a new access ramp from Williams Avenue to Platform 1 at Dorchester West Station
The ramp was required to be formed of traditional Engineered fill material formed in compacted layers and benched into the existing embankment.
The footpath structure was to comprise of granular subbase materials overlaid with bitumen surfacing with an anti-slip surface, constrained by path edgings and handrails on both sides of the footpath.
Construction of the entire ramp with the back of the platform fence in position.
“I’m just pleased its been built. It means that myself and other wheelchair users don’t have to go to Weymouth to get on a Bristol bound train. It will mean that people who are disabled or have mobility issues can get on the train at Weymouth, and get off at Dorchester West and it will mean easier access to Dorset County Hospital too”
