Nationwide Engineering delivered critical emergency works at Nightingale Road Viaduct in Guildford on behalf of Network Rail, successfully completing the removal and replacement of a failing parapet wall during a 52 hour possession.
The scope of works included the removal of a 40 metre section of deteriorating parapet wall and the installation of a BaFix ballast retention system in its place. The intervention was required to mitigate the risk of uncontrolled collapse and to ensure the continued safety and integrity of the rail corridor.
A vacuum excavator was utilised to safely and efficiently remove spent rail ballast and fill material, allowing the works to be carried out in a highly controlled manner. Ancillary activities included the movement and protection of trackside cables, along with the installation of a new trough route.
The works were delivered collaboratively with Nationwide Engineering’s specialist supply chain, ensuring the programme was completed safely, efficiently, and within the constraints of a tightly managed possession.
