The Project
Restoring heritage while creating modern commercial space
Nationwide Engineering is delivering the refurbishment and structural upgrade of the historic carriage works in Swindon as part of a heritage led regeneration scheme for Swindon Borough Council.
The project includes extensive roof replacement, masonry and timber repairs, glazing restoration, and a full internal fit out to transform the building into high quality commercial spaces while preserving its architectural character.
With roof and glazing works nearing completion, the project has progressed into the next phase, including Unit 8 window refurbishment, associated groundworks, and internal partitioning. Careful sequencing and close collaboration across trades have been essential to ensuring safe, efficient delivery within a sensitive heritage environment.
This project forms a key part of Swindon’s wider regeneration strategy and remains on programme for completion in January 2026, unlocking new commercial potential within a historically significant setting.
“Nationwide have been straightforward, honest and collaborative, keeping the Carriage Works Phase 3a on budget and on programme with no safety issues or neighbour complaints. It’s been a highly positive experience, and I would confidently recommend them to any organisation planning construction works.”
